LAC D’ORIENT IS RECORD-BREAKING NEW VENUE FOR 2006 The World Carp Classic will move to the magnificent Lac d’Orient in 2006 officials revealed at the prizegiving ceremony for this year’s event. The huge lake has yet to host an enduro event, but is synonymous with huge carp, including “Bulldozer” the famous common. And a disappointing haul at this year’s event persuaded WCC officials to look elsewhere for their sport. Ross Honey, founder of the World Carp Classic, admitted: “The haul for the last two events at Lac Amance has not been as we would have wished. “Our main concern is for the anglers to enjoy the event and to push the boundaries of carp angling competitions to new limits — so we have negotiated an exclusive contract to move to the massive, and more prolific, Lac d’Orient. “We are heartened that news of the move has already brought forward further offers of sponsorship. “The lake has a tremendous reputation among carp anglers and we are delighted to be able to make the move to cement the World Carp Classic’s position as the top event of its kind.” The move coincides with a further change in the format of the event which will now be a six-day, five-night competition, with six rods allowed per pair of anglers. The 25km of bank space will delight competitors, as will the news that boats will be allowed for the first time in the competition’s history. A civic reception with a national flag parade will herald the arrival of competitors who will battle for the biggest prize table yet. Honey added: “This will be the first enduro event fished at Lac d’Orient using many areas never fished legally before and, because of the venue’s reputation for record-breaking fish, it is sure to be a sell out event – and places will be limited.” • Further details of the competition — and entry forms — will be available soon from the World Carp Classic headquarters on 01730 711900.
